Day 2: Gorilla habituation experience

You will have an early breakfast, carry your packed lunch and transfer to the park headquarters with your driver guide for a gorilla habituation briefing, after which you will join a team of researchers, park rangers and park guides and start trekking in the forest. The gorilla habituation experience takes a whole day, and while trekking, you will be able to spot different bird species and other primates like black-and-white colobus monkeys, chimpanzees, L’hoest monkeys, and others.

Once the gorillas have been located, you will be allowed to spend four hours with them, which gives you an opportunity to watch them feed, groom young ones, play, engage in the naming process, take photos and record videos. After the face-to-face encounter with the mountain gorillas, you will return to the starting point where you will be awarded a certificate for participating in the gorilla habituation experience and meet up with your driver guide to return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Guided nature walk and Batwa cultural tour

After breakfast, your driver-guide will pick you up from the lodge to go for a guided nature walk in the forest, which starts with a briefing at the park headquarters. During the nature walk, you will be able to view different primates, forest mammals, plant and tree species, and waterfalls and spot a variety of birds, including the Albertine rift endemics, among others.

Later return to the lodge for lunch, after which you will go for an exciting Batwa cultural tour in the neighbouring communities, learn about their culture and lifestyle, listen to their ancient stories of how they used to live in the forest, and enjoy the traditional dance and drama, among others.
